Terre Haute, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - The career of Indiana State senior
running back Shakir Bell, a runner-up for the 2011 Walter Payton Award, is
Indiana State first-year coach Mike Sanford told the Terre Haute Tribune-
Star on Tuesday that the reason was a foot injury, although Bell tweeted he was
dismissed from the team, then later took down his tweets.
There was no word official announcement from the Missouri Valley Conference
Bell has battled injuries throughout the season. On 78 carries, he accumulated
420 yards and one touchdown.
In 2011, Bell ran for 1,670 yards and 14 touchdowns and tied for second place
for the Payton Award which honors the FCS outstanding player.
In four years with the program, Bell rushed for 4,214 yards with 30 career
touchdowns. He was just 121 yards behind the school's record holder, Vincent
