Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - New York Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte has become the team's all-time strikeouts leader.

The left-hander got Justin Morneau swinging for the second out of the fifth inning of Monday's game against the Minnesota Twins to record his 1,958th career strikeout. That surpassed the total of Whitey Ford for the most all- time in the franchise.

It was Pettitte's second strikeout of the evening. His first came in the second inning when he fanned Clete Thomas.

The 41-year-old Pettitte entered Monday with 250 career wins, one shy of tying Bob Gibson for 44th on baseball's all-time list.
