New Orleans VooDoo vs Jacksonville Sharks

Jacksonville, Fla - Saturday night marked the first ever meeting between the Jacksonville Sharks and the New Orleans VooDoo.

Jacksonville looked to make an impact in the South Division after coming off their first division win over Georgia last Friday.

New Orleans opened the game with a 35-yard touchdown reception brought in after just over a minute of game play.

Aaron Garcia completed a 45-yard pass to Jomo Wilson on the very next play to tie the score at 6.

Derrick Summers forced fumble helped spark the Sharks defense on the next series, which turned into Jeron Harvey's 7th touchdown reception of the season.

The first quarter ended on with another successful defensive stand for Jacksonville.

 The Sharks offense exploded at the beginning of the second quarter, with a 22-yard touchdown pass complete to Jomo Wilson, his second of the night.

The VooDoo came back almost immediately with a 29-yard touchdown pass caught by # 2 Carlese Franklin, to narrow the Jacksonville lead to only 7.

Constant penalties from the VooDoo allowed the Sharks offense to take control of the game.

A Sale' Key touchdown grab at the 2nd quarters halfway point extended the Jacksonville lead to 14 points.

Moqut Ruffins, a lineman for New Orleans, came through for the VooDoo came through for New Orleans scoring on a bulldozing catch and run.

But Jeron Harvey added to his already impressive game with his second touchdown reception of the night just before the quarters one- minute mark.

An onside kick attempt by Jacksonville late in the half gave New Orleans good field position, but the Sharks defense held tough and stopped the New Orleans offensive attack to give the Sharks the last attempt at scoring before the half ended.

 The Sharks took the kickoff to open the second half and Jeron Harvey kept doing what he does best, scoring on a 36-yard reception.

New Orleans but scored for the first time in the half with just over 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Jomo Wilson kept the Sharks offense on overdrive with a 48-yard catch on a blazing pass from Aaron Garcia. LaRoche "LJ" Jackson came up with his first interception of the season to give the Sharks possession at the end of the quarter.

 

Sale' Key's 15-yard reception kept the atmosphere at Sea Best as electric as ever at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Key's second touchdown reception of the night was also Garcia's 7th touchdown pass of the night for 293 yards. Key came immediately back onto the scene with an onside kick recovery for his third touchdown in the game.

The Jacksonville defense exposed just how weak the New Orleans offense was after draining precious time off the game clock, ending New Orleans 6-minute offensive stand with Micheaux Robinson's third interception of the season.

Omar Jacobs came into the game late in the quarter to finish for Garcia, who passed the 26-mile career passing yards mark with 308 yards in Saturday's game.

With Jacksonville's lead at 24 points, the Sharks defense managed to control the remainder of the game.

Bill Alford struck a finishing blow on the VooDoo offense with his first interception of the season.

Jeron Harvey walked off the field with the last laugh, with his third touchdown reception of the night, making the final score of the game 64-33, the Sharks biggest winning margin of any game in the 2011 season.

The Sharks victory over the VooDoo improves their record to 2-1 for the season, and a 2-0 division record.

The next game for the Sharks will be Friday, April 1st at the Tampa Storm.

The next home game at Sea Best Field will be on Saturday,

April 23rd when the Sharks will square off against the Cleveland Gladiators.
