ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office arrested a 23-year-old St. Johns County man on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, dealing in stolen property, loitering and prowling.
Shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday police saw Cecil Paul Young walking in an area where they were searching for a burglary suspect.
The location they were searching has seen numerous car burglaries the past two nights. According to Kevin Kelshaw with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, there were 14 car burglaries in that area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and "at least six" more reported Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
When police searched the area where Young was detained they found a black backpack. Inside that backpack they found a .380 handgun in addition to several electronic devices. According to police, this handgun matches one reported stolen the night before at a home on Johns Glen Drive.
Detectives are trying to determine where the electronic devices came from and how many burglaries Young might have a connection to.
Police are asking anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a car burglary to preserve the scene and contact the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office at 904-824-8304.
The specific area police are focusing on are the Johns Glen, Southlake and Stonehurst subdivisions.
