TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida lawmakers are giving Gov. Rick Scott more say over money used to bring jobs to the Sunshine State.

House and Senate budget chiefs meeting on Saturday agreed to give the governor more control over economic development incentives that go to companies that agree to either expand or relocate to Florida.

Budget negotiators have also reached a deal on prison spending. Top lawmakers agreed to keep open a Panhandle prison that had been targeted for closing. But a Hillsborough County women's prison will still be closed despite a push by Tampa Bay area lawmakers to keep it open.

Legislators have until Tuesday to finalize budget negotiations in order to finish on time.

Outstanding issues that remain include cuts to state universities and whether to create a 12th university in Lakeland.
