JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A dive team was called out to Bartram Springs Parkway this morning after a man fell asleep at the wheel of his car and drove into a pond.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the man was driving on Bartram Springs Parkway near E. Cherry Lake Drive before 5 a.m. when he fell asleep. The road dead ends into a pond.
According to the JSO Sergeant on scene, the driver woke up when his Volkswagen Beetle hit the water.
Police said the man was able to roll down his window and climb to safety.
Police estimate the pond is about 20-feet deep.
Divers, along with a tow truck were working to remove the vehicle from the lake Tuesday morning.
Police said alcohol is not suspected in the accident.
