JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Leonard Hoffman, a former social studies teacher at Paxon School for Advanced Studies has been arrested on charges of sexual battery with a teenager.
Hoffman, 32, was arrested in Sarasota on charges of sexual battery with a victim older than 12, but younger than 18 with custodial authority and unlawful sexual activity. The two charges carry a combined bond of $400,000.
The investigation into the allegations began September 8, 2011, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Melissa Bujeda.
Hoffman was removed from the classroom the same day the investigation began, according to Jill Johnson, spokesperson for Duval County Schools.
During the investigation, Hoffman remained on leave until January of 2012. At that time he was put on notice that he would be terminated. Hoffman was allowed to resign and did on March 1st, Johnson said.
