MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -- The Clay County Sheriff's Office has released new information in their investigation into the discovery of a body found inside a burned car Friday.
Investigators with the Clay County Sheriff's Office have been able to determine the body is that of a female, according to a news release from Clay County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Mary Justino. The identity of the female is still being determined.
Detectives were also able to determine the car is a 1995 Mercury Sable registered in Pennsylvania.
Justino said detectives are still working to determine the car's actual owner and why it would be in the area.
Florida Division of Forestry personnel discovered the burning Friday afternoon while responding to a small woods fire in the 2400 block of Blanding Boulevard.
Once they entered the woods they found the small fire was a burning car. After the fire was put out a dead body was found inside.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office is still investigating, Justino said.
