JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Saturday is National Get Outdoors Day and there are plenty of local events to keep you and your family entertained this weekend.

NEVER QUIT BEACH FEST 5K, TRIDENT, WARRIOR CHALLENGE, BATTLE FOR THE BEACH: Starting at 6 a.m., participants battle for the beach with 5k runs, trident challenges, surfing lessons, and a one-mile fun run. The last day to register was June 8, but spectators are asked to come out and support in Never Quit Never style. There's also a post-race celebration at Salt Life Food Shack starting at 8 p.m.

BFAST TRI RACE #2: The Beaches Fine Arts Series, home of BFAS Racing, is proud to present the 2012 Montoya BFAST TRI RACE #2 on Saturday, June 9, beginning at 7 a.m., at Mickler's Landing, Ponte Vedra Beach. This USAT Sanctioned race is a Swim, Bike, & Run Sprint Triathlon for participants 12 and older as of 12/31/2012. Enjoy awards provided by the official host bike shop of BFAS Racing, Trek Bicycle Store, and delicious food provided by our official Finish-Line food sponsor, Native Sun. Competing in this race allows Beaches Fine Arts Series to bring top-quality artists from all over the world who perform FREE concerts in North Florida and who provide FREE educational outreach programs with FREE BUSING to thousands of students in our area.

UP THE RIVER - A TWELVE MILE SWIM FOR THE ST. JOHNS: On June 9, 2012, for the first time ever on the St. Johns, there will be a 12-mile swim from Mandarin's County Dock area (next to the Walter Jones Historical Park at 11964 Mandarin Rd.) to the Riverside Arts Market. Join Jim Alabiso and his team as they make history in our beautiful river. This event is sponsored by residents, businesses, and nonprofits coming together to preserve our waterways. It's from 7:30 a.m. To 11:30 a.m.

THE 3RD ANNUAL GATE JACKSONVILLE FISHING RODEO: The big fishing event is this weekend at Metropolitan Park! Get in on the fishing and you could win prizes for the biggest fish. There's a kids clinic Saturday morning and on Sunday, the Evans Brothers Band is playing from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

CAMP COUTURE NYC "ON TOUR" CASTING CALL MODELS -HAIR/FASHION STYLIST - PHOTOGRAPHERS- MUA: Camp Couture NYC is having a Casting Call for Models, Photographers, Makeup Artists, Hair and Fashion Stylists. Participants will get to work with celebrity artists and potentially be selected to attend NY Fashion Week! The event is Saturday June 9 at 8 a.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Jacksonville - Riverfront.

FRIENDS OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOOK SALE: The big book sale is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the book warehouse on University Boulevard North. It's just $10 for a bag of books out the door.

FREE ENTRANCE DAY AT AMERICA'S NATIONAL PARKS: America's national parks are waiving all entry fees this Saturday. It's to celebrate national "get outdoors day." The event was created five years ago to encourage more Americans to get outside and enjoy nature. The Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine is also offering free admission to The Fort.

ST. MARYS FUN IN THE SUN EXPO: Join in for some great tasting BBQ and some friendly competition during the Sand Gnat BBQ Challenge from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 at the St. Marys Waterfront Park. BBQ teams are being sought for this informal competition and there is no fee to enter the contest but advance registration is required. If you think you are king of the grill, this is the event for you! Teams can choose to be judged in any of four categories and a team of judges will declare the ultimate overall winner as, "pitmaster." For only a $5 tasting fee, guests can sample BBQ from each team vying for title and place their vote for the "People's Choice" award winner. BBQ teams are able to sell their meals and some will take advantage. You will enjoy entertainment, vendor booths, blessing of the boats and other activities during the family friendly Fun in the Sun event.

YOGA PARCOURSE: A yoga class at the Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens will begin 9 a.m. and will continue on the second Saturday of each month. Brenda Star Walker, a well-respected and experienced yoga instructor, will lead the class on a 12-station Yoga Parcourse, ending with a 10-minute, seated meditation. Bring a beach towel or mat and payment. Cost per class: $10 for non-members (includes a $5 donation to the Arboretum). The poses are demonstrated by Olympic gold-medal-winner Shannon Miller.

RIVERSIDE ARTS MARKET: Riverside Arts Market is an outdoors arts event that features local artists, live music, street performers, gourmet food artisans, fresh local produce and more. Held on Saturdays, March-December, in the historic Riverside-Avondale district of Jacksonville, Riverside Arts Market encourages the support of local artists, performers and food artisans, and offers an alternative local shopping outlet for the Jacksonville community. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. off Riverside Avenue.

FREE HEALTH FAIR "THE GREAT OUTDOORS - SUN SAFETY": Bring the whole family and kick-off summertime at Florida Blue at The Markets at Town Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. This month, the free health fair will focus on "The Great Outdoors - Sun Safety." Local vendors will be on hand with info about safe and fun activities to do in your community. Be sure to pick up your free sun screen, lip balm and fans.

MY BIG FAT GREEK FOOD FESTIVAL: June 9-10 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Delicious food, beautifully costumed dancers, a Kids Area with rides and games all combine to make My Big Fat Greek Food Festival a weekend of family fun! Join in the festivities on June 8-10 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 2940 CR 214 (West King Street just before the I-95 overpass). Festival hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. This summer food festival gives the community another opportunity to sample Greek food and culture in St. Augustine. The weekend's featured event is an "An Evening of Comedy with Basile" at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 9th in the church fellowship Hall. Basile has entertained millions of comedy fans in the United States as well as internationally. WATERCOLOR IN THE WOODS: Embrace your inner artist at the Tree Hill Nature Center with Watercolor in the Woods on Saturday, June 9 from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Paint your very own outdoor masterpiece! Learn the basics of watercolor technique and color from local artist Shellie Thies. Participants will get hands-on as they paint their own work of art. All ages welcome. 8TH ANNUAL PUTT N' CRAWL: It's miniature golf, BUZZ style! The 8th Annual Putt N' Crawl will be held Saturday, June 9 in Jacksonville Beach. This year, Putt N' Crawl is projected to be better than ever, with the expansion to an 18-hole miniature golf course. 10 of your favorite restaurants and bars are opening their doors to all participants who dare to take on the challenge of each home-built putting green. Tickets can be purchased for $25 the day of the event, which runs from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Team chemistry and matching outfits are encouraged! Make sure to dress in your best golf attire because this is one event where style is rewarded. So pull on those argyle socks, plaid shorts, and top it off with your sun visor! MS. SENIOR JACKSONVILLE PAGEANT 2012: Support the lovely ladies of the Ms. Senior Jacksonville Pageant as they compete for the crown at Florida Sate College downtown campus Saturday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20.

3RD ANNUAL SINGING FOR DREAMS: Local singer Sairah Grace will host the 3rd Annual Singing for Dreams at Buffalo's Café off Youngerman Circle Saturday, June 9 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free. The event will include a 50/50 drawing, raffle prizes, and local vendors. Buffalo's Café will donate 10% of food and non-alcoholic beverage purchases during the event directly to Dreams Come True. All money raised through the event will help in sponsoring the Disney Dream of Roman.

THE LUAU AT ADVENTURE LANDING: Join Adventure Landing in Jacksonville Beach from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the hottest show of the summer. 6TH ANNUAL CHANGE YOUR LIFE FLAGLER 5K TO BENEFIT THE FLAGLER COUNTY FREE CLINIC: Presented By: Brighthouse Networks - Change Your Life with Florida Hospital and Rotary Club of Palm Coast. Proceeds will go to the Flagler County Free Clinic. The Clinic provides volunteer medical care to persons without health insurance on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at 6:30 a.m.

NFLT CONSERVATION JUBILATION OPEN HOUSE AND FISH FRY: Join in celebrating the recent acquisition of 110 acres on Big Talbot Island with an open house at "Big Talbot House" on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes a Fish Fry, Bluegrass Music by The Valley Grass, BYOB. Big Talbot House is located on Houston Avenue on Big Talbot Island set among the marshes of the Mud River. Bring your bicycles, kayaks, or just walk and enjoy the area.

FC JAX DESTROYERS DOUBLE HEADER: Come out on June 10 to Jacksonville University to support both the Men and Women FC Jax Destroyers! Women vs. Atlanta Silverbacks and Men vs. Bradenton Academies. It's Sunday at 2 p.m. at Jacksonville University.

INTERMEZZO SUNDAY CONCERT: Pianist Jost Van Dyke performs at the Main Library Hicks Auditorium from 2:30 p.m. To 4 p.m. He'll be performing music by Chopin, Bach, Albéniz, and Brahms. Mr. Van Dyke's concert career was interrupted in the early 1990s by the onset of focal dystonia, a condition that has hindered or ended the careers of many distinguished musicians. This performance is the Jacksonville debut of Jost Van Dyke, and his first public recital in nearly two decades. It is a free event.

REMINISCE WITH THE SASSY TAPPERS SHOW: The Sassy Tappers of the Neptune Beach Senior Activity Center perform their newest show, "Reminisce with the Sassy Tappers." This show, choreographed and directed by Patty Zipperer, is a nostalgic revue of dance through the decades from the Roaring 20's to the Disco 70's. It's Sunday at the River Garden Hebrew Home at 3 p.m.
