JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An 82-year-old grandfather and father of 8 was found badly beaten in his home Wednesday morning. By the time authorities arrived, he had died from his injuries.
Sgt. T.K. Waters from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says around 6:20 a.m., George Montgomery Davis's son discovered him. Relatives confirm the son's name is Quma Toler.
Sgt. Waters says there was no forced entry into Davis's home which is located at 702 St. Clair Street.
Waters says there was a lot of blood and that crime scene evidence technicians are pouring over the house for clues.
Family members say Davis was a retired painter who loved fishing.
Ilieta Thomas lives just a few doors down from Davis. She says she'll miss seeing him and visiting with him on his porch. "Such a nice man - he would give you the shirt off his back."
Thomas says they live in a close knit neighborhood right across the street from Woodstock Park. She says somebody heard or saw something and she hopes they'll come forward because she says the victim's family is devastated.
Thomas adds, "It's an awful thing."
