JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The plane carrying the Baltimore Orioles baseball team made an unexpected stop at the Jacksonville International airport Sunday night.
The spokesman for JIA, Michael Stewart, said the plane was diverted to Jacksonville due to smoke in the forward galley.
The Orioles were on a Delta charter flight. Stewart said Delta mechanics checked out the plane and deemed it "safe to fly."
The team boarded that same plane around 10 p.m. to continue their flight to St. Petersburg, Fla. The plane left Jacksonville around 10:15.
