JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --There were 20 crashes in a 4-mile area on the westside Friday afternoon.
According to Captain Keith Gaston with the Florida Highway Patrol, 18 people were taken to the hospital, but none of the injuries were serious.
The wrecks closed parts of I-10 during the afternoon west but all lanes of I-10 were reopened as of 7:45 p.m. Friday.
Shands Hospital spokesman Dan Leveton said that Shands, along with other area hospitals, had been put on alert about the crash. It's something he said is common when there's a serious crash.
Leveton said Shands treated one pediatric patient following the crash, but couldn't release the child's condition.
