FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. -- The Flagler County Sheriff's Office arrested a 17-year-old high school student Thursday morning on a felony arson charge after a fire in a school bathroom Tuesday afternoon.
Debra Johnson, public information officer for the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, said in a new release surveillance video showed Joshua Lowe entering the boy's restroom in the Matanzas High School cafeteria shortly before 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
Johnson said the surveillance video showed Lowe leaving the restroom at 3:44 p.m. and the fire alarm and sprinklers for the fire system activating at 3:48 p.m. The alarm and sprinklers activated because of a fire in the restroom.
School officials told police no one else was seen going in or out of the cafeteria restroom during that time.
Johnson said at the time the fire was set there were approximately 50 students in the cafeteria.
No one was injured and the damage is estimated at $1,000.
Deputies arrested Lowe and transported him to the Division of Youth Services in Daytona Beach. He is charged with felony arson.
