VILANO BEACH, Fla. -- Detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office are still looking for a person they say shot a man in a robbery attempt in the morning hours of Monday, October 29.

Sergeant Chuck Mulligan, Public Information Officer for the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, said a man shot another man in the leg during a robbery attempt shortly before 7 a.m. Monday in the 500 block of 23rd Street in Vilano Beach.

Kevin Kelshaw, Media Relations Officer with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, said the 63-year-old man told police he was ambushed in his garage Monday morning as he was attempting to leave for work.

The victim said the masked, armed man told him to go back into his home and demanded money.

Kelshaw said the 63-year-old suffered non-life threatening injuries when the alleged robber shot him in the leg.

The armed man then fled the area in the victim's 2012 Dodge pickup truck.  Police later recovered the truck on the side of a nearby road a short time later.

Police searched the area but were unable to locate the masked man.

Kelshaw said the alleged robber is described as being a black male, 5'10" tall, medium build and was wearing all black clothing with a bandana covering his face.

Anyone with any information concerning the identity of the masked robbery or about the incident is asked to contact the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office at 904-824-3404.

To remain anonymous, you may contact Crime Stoppers of N.E. Florida by calling 1-888-277-TIPS.
