JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville Sheriff's Officer has been taken to the hospital with minor injuries after colliding with a car while responding to a call.
According to police at the scene, the accident happened at N. Myrtle Avenue and Kings Road. The officer was headed northbound on Myrtle in a JSO patrol car with its lights on, responding to a suicide call.
A Crown Victoria driven by a man and carrying a woman and two children passengers was driving eastbound on Kings.
A hardware store at the intersection created a blind spot, police said. The officer stopped at a red light before going through the intersection. Because of the blind spot, the Crown Victoria did not see the police car.
The family was treated at the scene for minor injuries while the officer was taken to the hospital.
The officer appeared to have been following protocol when the accident happened, according to police at the scene.
