ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a vehicle crash with injuries involving a dump truck on Interstate 95 northbound near mile marker 326.
The incident happened around 3 p.m. Wednesday when the left front tire blew out on a dump truck that was traveling southbound on I-95, according to Sgt. Dylan Bryan with FHP.
The vehicle steered left, hit the guardrail and overturned. The cargo that the truck was carrying, raw asphalt, was spilled onto the road, Bryan said.
The driver, 43-year-old John Henry, was airlifted to Shands Jacksonville with serious injuries, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Bryan said.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, both northbound and southbound lanes on I-95 were blocked. One northbound lane is still blocked so the truck can be removed.
