JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- A man is in police custody on charges he assaulted police officers after police were called to a home in the 1800 block of 1st Street South to conduct a welfare check Christmas Day.
Police were called to the home to conduct the welfare check after a neighbor became concerned they had not seen the woman for some time, according to a news release from Sergeant Thomas Crumley, Public Information Officer for the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.
Sgt. Crumley said when officers began investigating they found a domestic disturbance occurred between roommates. At some point the disturbance turned violent.
Crumley said a man, who police have not released the identity of, attacked officers, who tased the man.
Police arrested him without further incident, Crumley said. He is charged with three counts for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, according to the release. Crumley said those charges are not related to the domestic disturbance.
After police arrested the man, Crumley said they found a female victim inside the home that had life threatening injuries.
Emergency personnel transported her to Beaches Baptist ER and later flew her to Shands Jacksonville. Crumley said she is currently in critical condition.
