COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- An 87-year-old missing endangered woman from Lake City has been found safe.
In a news release Friday morning Sgt. Ed Seifert, Public Information Officer for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Noretia Dempsey had been found.
Seifert said Dempsey was found in Alabama on I-10 around exit 38. The Daphne, Alabama, Police Department found her in her vehicle on the side of the road. Dempsey had run out of gas, Seifert said.
Alabama police found her after a truck driver saw the Silver Alert on a billboard when he drove through Florida and notified law enforcement.
Police said the octogenarian left her home Thursday morning and was reported missing a short time later when she did not return.
Thursday night Seifert said she purchased gas at a gas station on Jacksonville's Main Street.
