Veterans Memorial Arena, Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts Moran Theater rank among world's best for 2012 ticket sales

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena and the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts Moran Theater are ranked among the world's best venues for ticket sales.

The leading venues are ranked by Pollstar, a publication for concert tour industry, according to a release from SMG, and use ticket sales figures from 2012.

The release said the Veterans Memorial Arena is ranked 76th in the world and 38th in the United States among arenas for ticket sales.

The Moran Theater ranked 54th internationally and 40th nationally theaters.

Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown said, "This is well-earned recognition for our city and especially the downtown area.  As we support and expand options for entertainment in Jacksonville, we are making strides to refine the brand of our city and build a greater sense of vibrancy for all to enjoy.  I congratulate SMG along all of the hardworking staff and event promoters who have put in so many hours to ensure we, as a city, continue to raise the bar."

Pollstar ranks the top 200 arenas and 100 theaters around the world.  The release said rankings for the venues are based on ticket sales from major touring acts played between January 1 and December 31, 2012.

The release said during that timeframe the arena hosted 18 Pollstar recognized events and sold 176,623 tickets.  The ticket sales place the Arena ahead of venues in Detroit, New Orleans, Charlotte and Indianapolis.

The Moran Theater hosted 24 Pollstar recognized events, the release said, with ticket sales totaling 112,935 tickets.  The Moran Theater's ranking places it ahead of other theaters in Charlotte, Indianapolis and Norfolk.
