JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A father was arrested Saturday after he allegedly kidnapped his 2-month-old son from a home on Meharry Drive, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The baby is back with his mother and Ronnie Jones, 25, is now in police custody, said Melissa Bujeda with the Sheriff's Office.
Chief Tom Hackney with the Sheriff's Office said Jones kicked in the front door, took the infant, threatened to kill the child, and drove off.
Jones then dropped the baby off at a neighbor's house, according to the Sheriff's Office
A call about the incident was received by police at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, said Hackney. Detectives responded to the scene and began to canvas the neighborhood with K-9 units and blood hounds.
The Sheriff's Office was in the process of issuing an AMBER Alert, a procedure for rapidly publicizing a missing child, until a neighbor walked out with the child and surrendered him to detectives, according to Hackney.
