JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Firefighters with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department are battling a fire behind a residential neighborhood.
The 10-acre wildfire is located off of Stanford Bridge Drive and Purcell Drive, near Interstate 10 and Interstate 295, causing concerns of smoke on I-10, according to Annaleasa Winter with the Florida Forest Service.
The fire was started by a power substation underneath a power line and the fire started burning quickly in the dry grass.
Flames then ran in between houses, damaging fences and a shed. The winds then shifted the fire into a swamp behind I-10.
No burned homes or injuries have been reported and no homes had to be evacuated, Winter said.
The fire is now in a swamp, preventing firefighters from completely extinguishing the blaze.
They will be working into the night to contain the smoke and fire.
The investigation on the root cause of the fire is continuing, Winter said.
