JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A St. Augustine man who won a car in the Blood Alliance's car promotion giveaway plans to pay it forward by donating his former car.
43-year-old Steven Carr won a 2013 GMC Buick Verano in a drawing presented by The Blood Alliance. Carr has donated almost five gallons of blood since 2001, and his name was the one randomly pulled in the January 28 drawing.
"I'm very grateful that I received something that I definitely did not expect," said Carr.
Carr knew the promotion was going on since August 2012, but said he donated every time the blood mobile came to his job not to win a car, but because it's his way of giving back to the community.
"Donating blood is something that I believe in very much, it's my, just something that I can do to help people that are less fortunate than I am, who are not as in good health as I am," said Carr.
The car was donated to the Alliance by Nimnicht Buick GMC and Carr was one of 42,000 participants in the drawing. He says now he, his wife, and their three children will get to enjoy the new car, but they also have plans for the old one.
"We want to donate our old car. I mean, I was given a gift. We want to give a gift to someone else that might be able to use it," added Carr.
Carr is donating his 1999 Honda Accord to the Wounded Warrior Project to pay it forward.
