JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office bomb squad is investigating a suspicious trash can that was discovered Sunday on the steps to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department headquarters in downtown Jacksonville.
The trash can did not belong to the building and was noticed by a worker outside on the steps around noon Sunday, said Sgt. Rob Beers, JSO spokesman. The employee alerted the Sheriff's Office to the suspicious item. When police arrived they determined the item was suspicious enough to investigate further, so the bomb squad responded.
Prior to this event, the JFRD communication center had received vague threats for the last three weeks. This added to the suspicion of the package, Beers said.
