MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -- Two charged after allegedly scamming someone looking for man's best friend.
Candice Mullis, 24 and 23-year-old Justin Stone are accused of creating false documents to sell a dog, according to a police report from the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
Mullis and Stone allegedly posted an add for an American Bulldog for sale on Craigslist, the report said.
An interested buyer made contact with the suspects via email and later by phone, according to the report.
The buyer claimed to have paid Mullis and Stone $250 for the dog and in return the suspects allegedly provided "papers" for the dog showing a doctors name, "J Patterson, " and breeders name, "DarJon's Kennel."
According to the report, four days after purchasing the dog the buyer had to take the dog to an emergency care center, where it was put down due to health complications. The dog was allegedly diagnosed with Farvo and Coascidia.
The buyer showed the "papers" provided by the suspects to Animal Control, the report detailed. Animal Control claimed the "papers" were made up and there is no record of a DarJon's Kennel.
Both Mullis and Stone were taken into custody and charged with organized schemes to defraud.
