MIAMI, Fla.  -- The biggest drug seizure to date was made Friday at the Miami Seaport as the U.S. Customs and Border Protection was able to intercept a shipment containing 4,300 pounds of marijuana.

The drugs were initially discovered when a CBP officer noticed that a container on a vessel coming in from South America had been tampered with, according to a release from CBP.

A K-9 officer confirmed that drugs were in the container and 40 bags of green leafy plants were found, later confirmed to be marijuana.

"Every day the men and women of Customs and Border Protection work diligently to protect our borders to prevent the importation of contraband through our ports of entry.  Customs and Border Protection at the Port of Miami works very closely with our law enforcement and security partners to disrupt and ultimately close off pathways through which narcotics are introduced into the United States," said CBP Miami Office Of Field Operations Director Vernon Foret.

The drugs are worth about $4 million. No arrests have been made yet, as the case is still being investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
