ORLANDO, Fla. (WESH) -- Fire crews are working to knock down flames Thursday at nearly two-dozen locations across the region.
On Wednesday, an 8-acre fire flared up near an apartment complex. Several units were evacuated as a precaution. Hours later, the residents were let back in and no structures were damaged.
Another blaze scorched about 15-acres of brush in Palm Bay, forcing officials to shut U.S. Highway 1.
A 35-acre blaze in Port St. John was contained on Wednesday night. Several other hot spots are being monitored.
Officials in Volusia County said multiple areas are under a red alert for fire threat. Firefighters there have been battling big blazes in Port Orange and Ormond Beach.
With continued dry weather in the forecast, firefighters may be busy for several more days at least.
