BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Schools in Glynn County had added security one day after a toddler was shot and killed on Thursday.

"It was scary."

Three simple, but poignant words from high school junior Dalton Manning.

Glynn Academy, just blocks from the murder scene, was put on lock down yesterday.

As law enforcement searched for two young murder suspects, it was a nervous day at school.

De'Marquise Elkins, 17, and a 15-year-old male were arrested Friday. They are both being charged with first-degree murder. The 15-year-old's identity is not being released due to his age.

"Naturally something like this shocks the conscience so it has got parents and kids on edge," said Rod Ellis, the chief of police with the school district.

Ellis said they did have added security at the schools today, but thankfully it was not needed.

The Brunswick Police Department confirmed that they were looking through the attendance records from Thursday to see if any absent students fit the suspect descriptions.

"There's been a lot of people, there's been DNR up here and stuff like that. It's ridiculous," Manning said.

Chief Ellis says he got concerned calls yesterday when the school went into lock down and has one piece of advice for parents moving forward.

"It doesn't matter if you're in Glynn County or Duval County, or where you're at, anywhere in your viewing audience. One thing that's very critical is having good phone numbers for us be able to contact folks to let them know what's going on," he said.
