ST. JOHNS, COUNTY, Fla. -- A former Flagler Beach police officer was arrested early Saturday morning on an attempted murder charge following an alleged road rage incident Friday evening.
Nathaniel David Juratovac, 40, was picked up by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Robbery/Homicide Unit after the incident left a man injured.
Jared Conrad Parkey, firefighter with Flagler County, was shot twice and airlifted to Shands Jacksonville where he was treated and released.
Both the victim and the suspect had family members traveling with them, and deputies said one of the individuals in Juratovac's vehicle who witnessed the shooting is a member of the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies are still investigating the circumstances that lead up to the shooting.
The northbound lanes on U.S. 1 were shut down from Watson Road to Wildwood Drive for nearly six hours after police responded to the call at about 8:15 p.m. Friday.
