Convicted felon wanted in fatal Jacksonville shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police are looking for a man who is suspected of fatally shooting another man in the head on March 19.

Travis Jerome Thornton, 26, has an active arrest warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a warrant for murder is pending, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Shannon Hartley.

Thornton allegedly shot Bradley Jamal Jackson, 22, in the head at the Roosevelt Gardens Apartments on March 19.

Jackson and others were involved in an altercation in the playground area. Investigators found that Jackson was attempting to leave and was followed by several people, and one of them produced a handgun.

This caused Jackson to produce a handgun as well, but he did not threaten anyone with it. At this point, investigators say, Thornton shot Jackson in the head.

Thornton fled the area and his whereabouts are unknown.
