CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- A Clay County Sheriff's Officer was arrested for DUI early Sunday morning.
The Clay County Sheriff's office arrested James Avery, 48, a Clay County law enforcement officer, according to a report from Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP responded to a single vehicle crash on Blanding Blvd Saturday night. When the officers arrived they found Avery outside leaning up against his girlfriend's SUV, the report stated.
The officers noticed Avery's speech was mumbled and he was unsteady on his feet, according to the report.
Officers initiated a field sobriety test and Avery cooperated, however Avery failed the test and was charged with DUI with property damage.
Avery was booked at the Clay County jail early Sunday morning and was placed on administrative paid leave.
