CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- During Tropical Storm Debby, the CodeRED system helped evacuate residents near Black Creek when the water was so high it would have been over a person's head.

The system sends a text message to residents depending on the areas of impact and residents can register a smartphone or on the CodeRED website.

Twenty-four hour call centers are also set up during weather emergencies and those numbers are reported through the media and online.

Clay has 13 shelters and one special needs shelter. This year, they are retrofitting two shelters at Montclair Elementary and another at a Lake Asbury school and they will be open next year.
