NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. -- A man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for the 2010 murder of Kirk Thomas Westfall.
James Perry Turnage, 47, was found guilty by a Nassau County jury May 2 of second-degree murder and grand theft auto.
Turnage had been living in a trailer on Westfall's property, trying to turn his life around after being released from prison on Criminal Mischief charges, according to a release from the State Attorney's Office.
Turnage was seen driving Westfall's car in South Carolina after Westfall was reported missing. Turnage was then arrested in New Jersey just a few days later.
The body of Westfall, who was last seen at his son's football game in Yulee in October 2010, was found in the woods near Turnage's father's South Carolina home.
