JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Bond is set for the man who allegedly allowed a 13 year-old to drive a car that hit four young girls. John Baptisme made his first court appearance Wednesday morning.
He faces six charges. Four charges are leaving the scene resulting in injury. He also faces charges of driving with a suspended, canceled or revoked license causing death or serious injury, even though he allegedly wasn't behind the wheel.
That's why he has another charge of permitting an unauthorized minor to drive. His bond is set at $115,018.
Baptisme's father, Niyo, said he knows John very well, and believes that he's letting people lead him the wrong way.
"He's a grown man, he's doing what he thinks is good. But to me, it was wrong, and that's why I was asking him to turn himself in that day," said Niyo Baptisme.
His father went on to say he believes John's girlfriend, the 13 year-old girl's mother, should be just as responsible.
Baptisme is due back in court June 5th.
