JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A two-year-old child is in critical condition at Wolfson Children's Hospital after being found in a pool at a day care center.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to Kiddie Heaven, located at 8337 Ireland Drive, earlier Tuesday afternoon.
The child had been playing in the pool earlier and it is uncertain how the child got back there again, according to police at the scene.
According to John Harrell with the Florida Department of Children and Families, the day care was operating without a license.
DCF is still looking into how many kids were there, what exactly happened, and if there were any other incidents at the center.
Harrell said parents should only send their children to licensed day care centers, as licensed centers have completed proper background checks.
It is a red flag, Harrell said, if a center does not have its license number listed on its website.
