JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A dump truck was traveling Interstate 295 southbound when it overturned, according to Florida Highway Patrol Sergeant Dylan Bryan.
The driver, who has been identified as 68-year-old Fate Johnson, died at the scene of the accident, said Dylan.
An auto transporter trailer was traveling on west on I-295 in the outside lane while the dump truck driven by Johnson was traveling in the inside lane, according to an FHP report.
The auto transporter started merging left to get on the I-95 south entrance ramp. In the process, the rear left of the trailer collided with the front of the dump truck.
The dump truck then veered left and collided head-on with the guardrail and overturned on its right side.
The crash closed the I-95 Southbound ramp at I-295 North for approximately two hours. Traffic was diverted to Duval Road.
A secondary accident at the scene resulted in non-life threatening injuries for those involved.
