Galveston, Texas -- Thousands of people will board the Carnival Triumph on Thursday for the cruise ship's first voyage since an engine fire left passengers stranded at sea for days.

Would you sign up for this trip? Around 3,500 people have.

When the Carnival Triumph sails from Galveston, Texas on Thursday, it will carry a sold-out crowd on board. And when it comes back from its voyage to Mexico, it will pick up another sold-out crowd.

People are not staying away from this ship even though it limped back to port after a fire onboard four months ago. Passengers were stranded for days with no power and no working toilets.

Florida-based Carnival Cruise Lines says it has spent $115 million removing the filth that overtook the ship during that debacle and upgrading the vessel from stem to stern.

In April, Carnival announced it would spend another $300 million to make upgrades to all 24 of its ships. That includes the Carnival Paradise and Carnival Legend, which sail from the Port of Tampa.

Carnival says it will install:

- The most advanced firefighting systems available.
- A second backup generator devoted to powering what they call "hotel" systems like toilets and food service.
- A reconfigured power network that creates more of an overlap between the main and backup electrical systems.

If everything goes smoothly on this trip, the Triumph will resume its original assignment of four- and five-day voyages from Galveston to Mexico.
