JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A escaped South Dakota inmate was captured in Jacksonville, according to David Alred, Supervisory Inspector of the
Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Richard Beckwith, was in prison for selling drugs, Alred said.
Beckwith, 51, signed out of the South Dakota State Penitentiary Sunday morning for a work release job in Yankton, South Dakota, reported KTIV.
When Beckwith failed to show up for work, Alred said a warrant was issued June 10 for his escape.
The U.S. Marshals received a tip that he was at a residence on the Westside of Jacksonville. According to Alred, the home is that of his ex-wife's and it was under surveillance for a few days.
Friday morning the U.S. Marshals arrested Beckwith in the home. Alred said he will be transported back to prison in South Dakota and will verify his identity through fingerprints.
