BAKER COUNTY, Fla. -- A phone scam that has already taken place multiple times throughout the country deceives people into giving personal information regarding their debit card.

Targets receive a phone call stating that their debit card has been deactivated and in order to correct the problem, they must speak with a customer service representative. They are then prompted to give their personal information over the phone and enable the theft of such information to the scammers.

It is strongly advised that no one give out their personal information over the phone to unauthorized callers stating the deactivation of their debit cards.

Any concerns regarding this should be reported to the Sheriff's Office at 904-259-2231 as well as the bank.
