Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is resigning to take a job running the University of California education system, administration officials said Friday.
Officials confirmed Napolitano's departure on the condition they not be named, saying the Department of Homeland Security would be making the official announcement later in the day.
Napolitano, a former governor of Arizona, is only the third person to lead the Department of Homeland Security, and held the job throughout President Obama's first term.
