JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded to a fire and shooting at a Southside motel near I-95 and Baymeadows Road Friday morning.
The call came into to JFRD at 7:22 a.m. this morning and involved two units at the hotel located at 8285 Dix Ellis Trail, according to John Bracey with JFRD. The fire was under control shortly after JFRD arrived on scene.
At least two people were injured and both were transported to an area hospital, according to Bracey.
One of the injuries was due to a gunshot wound, according to police on scene.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Melissa Bujeda later detailed that the victims are both females in their early twenties.
The female victim with a gunshot wound is currently in life-threatening condition, while the second female victim is in stable condition. The nature of the second victim's injuries has not been released.
The incident happened inside one of the rooms at the back end of the Motel 6, according to Bujeda, and appears that the fire was not accidental.
Several rooms were evacuated when the fire broke out and the back of the hotel sustained significant damage.
JSO has located the 2002 four door Buick in connection to this incident. However, no arrests have been made at this time.
