ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- A man involved in a two-vehicle crash off of Race Track Road on July 16 died Tuesday as a result of his injuries.
Herbert Stafford, 78, of Julington Creek was trying to cross Race Track Road traveling south on Bartram Oaks Walk in a 1998 Nissan Frontier around 10:15 a.m. July 16, according to a release from St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw.
Stafford's vehicle struck a 2013 Hyundai Elantra traveling eastbound on Race Track Road, which was driven by 28-year-old Victoria Hartwell of Middleburg.
Hartwell and Stafford were initially transported to Julington Creek Memorial Hospital. Later, Stafford was airlifted to UF Health at Jacksonville. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the release.
The crash had closed the intersection for several hours.
