ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- A central Florida deputy has been suspended without pay after authorities say he fled from a traffic stop while off duty.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office reports that 27-year-old Aaron Larkin was driving his girlfriend's car Sunday evening when an on-duty deputy in a marked patrol car saw that Larkin wasn't wearing a seatbelt. After running the plates on the vehicle, the deputy learned that the tags had been expired since January.
The deputy reported turning on his lights to pull Larkin over. Larkin reportedly made a U-turn and then sped off. Instead of chasing Larkin, the deputy tracked the license plate to the home of Larkin's girlfriend.
That's where Larkin was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding an officer with lights activated. He was being held on $3,500 bail.
