One of President Obama's fiercest critics just happens to be the richest member of Congress.

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., is back on top of The Hill's list of 50 wealthiest members of the U.S. House and Senate. The chairman of the House Oversight Committee, which has been leading investigations into the Internal Revenue Service's scrutiny of Tea Party groups, was worth at least $355 million in 2012, according to The Hill.

Issa is a perennial atop lists of richest lawmakers. He made his fortune as CEO of the company that makes the Viper car alarm.

As a member of Congress, Issa is perhaps best known to people outside of Washington as chairman of the House Oversight Committee. That panel has been investigating the IRS and the deadly attack last year on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, in which four Americans were killed.

Issa bumped Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, for the top spot on the Capitol Hill newspaper's list this year. McCaul's net worth is estimated to be at least $101 million. McCaul's wife is the daughter of Lowry Mays, founder of Clear Channel Communications, the radio and billboard company.

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., comes in third on The Hill's list with a minimum net worth of $88.5 million. Before he was governor of Virginia, Warner invested in tech companies and made his fortune with Nextel just as the cellphone industry was taking flight.

Lists like these are always fun to read, even if it is hard to pinpoint someone's net worth. The Hill went through the personal financial disclosure forms each lawmaker is required to file. The forms allow lawmakers to report holdings -- and debts -- in broad ranges.
