JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A new housing development in Jacksonville was unveiled Wednesday, according to an Operation New Hope press release.
The Oakland Commons is an eight home housing development that is located in the historic eastside community of the 600 block of Phelps Street.
Qualified Duval County homebuyers receive close to a $50,000 down payment and closing cost assistance through the City of Jacksonville's Neighborhood Stabilization Program that is financed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, according to the release.
The release detailed that Operation New Hope's affordable housing program has engaged in the urban neighborhoods of Historic Springfield and East Jacksonville, by restoring and building nearly 80 homes.
The homes are meant to be affordable; providing the "American Dream" of home ownership for many low-income individuals and families.
