TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida Lottery announces its Mega Millions game is getting a makeover that will boost jackpots and create more millionaires.
Starting in October, Mega Millions will start with a jackpot of $15 million, up from $12 million.
Plus, every rollover will raise the jackpot by at least $5 million and the game's second prize will increase from $250,000 to $1 million.
To win Mega Millions' jackpot, you have to match five white balls and one gold Mega Ball. The new game will increase the number of white balls from 56 to 75 and reduce the number of gold balls from 46 to 15.
That means the new odds of winning any prize will be 1 in 15.
The changes take effect on Saturday, October 19.
Mega Millions is played in 43 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held on Tuesday and Friday evenings.
