COBB/CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- The Georgia Department of Labor is warning thousands of people who filed for unemployment that their secure information has been breached and emailed to 1,000 people. The information the DOL sent out to some of its customers contains a spread sheet with names, Social Security numbers, telephone numbers and email addresses of 4,457 customers.

People who received the email and customers whose information was breached are customers of the Georgia Department of Labor's Cobb-Cherokee Career Center on Big Shanty Road in Marietta. Sam Hall, spokesperson for the GADOL said no other counties were affected.

Ralph Corrubia, of Acworth, received the email Thursday afternoon. "At first I thought it was spam or junk and then when I saw 'Department of Labor', I saw there was a spread sheet and then I opened it and there was those social security numbers," he said.

Corrubia said he found his information on the spread sheet. "I will call a credit monitoring company and get that done and then just wait to see what the government (GADOL) is going to do," he said.

The Georgia Department of Labor gave the following statement to 11 Alive News:

A document containing confidential information, including names and social security numbers, for 4,457 customers of the Georgia Department of Labor's Cobb-Cherokee Career Center has inadvertently been emailed to approximately 1,000 people, primarily in Cobb and Cherokee counties. The email occurred because of an employee error.

The department has notified recipients of the error and instructed them to immediately delete the file attached to the email without opening it.

The department will provide free credit monitoring services to all of the people affected.
