JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The owner of the Holiday Grocery wasn't ready to hand over his money to a robbery suspect without a fight Sunday night.
According to Sgt. Rob Troxel of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, a man entered the food mart in the 7500 block of Shindler Drive around 9 p.m.
The man gave the appearance of having a gun and demanded money from two employees and the owner inside, according to police.
The clerk handed over money, but before the suspect could get away the owner of the store shot him once in the chest, according to Troxel.
The suspect was found about a block away from the store with money scattered near him by police and was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police responded after a citizen near the scene called police to alert them of the situation.
No charges were brought against the store owner.
A gun was not immediately recovered near the suspect, according to Troxel.
