JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A home on the Southside went up in flames Saturday, killing one.
Dorothy E. Culpepper, 87, was in her Southside Estates neighborhood home in the 3100 block of Forest Boulevard when it caught fire.
An unidentified motorist tried to rescue an Culpepper from the burning home, but was unsuccessful.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide detective Larry Kuczkowski said the fire started around 4:30 p.m. Witnesses saw smoke and flames coming from the home and called 911.
Kuczkowski said the motorist stopped, broke through a window of the home and searched for any people inside before being forced out by the fire.
Culpepper died at the scene and lived alone according to JSO.
The Florida State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the deadly blaze.
