COCOA BEACH, Fla. - Thousands of bees were removed Saturday from a 98-year-old woman's home in Cocoa Beach.

The buzz that circled 98-year-old Sevia Moore's house was one that would make other people run in fear. Moore said 20,000 bees built a hive in the attic and awning of her home.

"They didn't bother me. When I was outside, I didn't even see any," Moore said.

Moore's granddaughter, Laura Blevins, said when she showed her grandmother the hive, she was stunned.

"(There was) relief. Sleeping under that, oh lord," Blevins said.

The beekeeper used a vacuum to gather all the bees and collected the huge honey comb and hive. The bees, which are important to nature, will be moved to a safer location.

"The honey bee population is hurting right now. It's important to save the hive and they can go on to reproduce. They are good for the environment," said beekeeper Leo Cross.
