JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Renters in Jacksonville should beware of making drop box payments.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is currently working a string of thefts involving drop boxes at several Jacksonville apartment complexes, according to a release from JSO.
An unknown suspect is breaking into drop boxes renters often use to make rental payments and stealing the contents, the release says. Officers say the thieves are cashing money orders stolen from the boxes.
Officers have reached out to a number of apartment complexes in Jacksonville asking them to stop using the drop boxes at this time.
The release also advises renters not to use drop boxes to prevent themselves from becoming a victim. Instead officers advise renters to physically hand a payment to apartment office personnel or use an online payment system that many complexes have in place.
Anyone who has any information about who is responsible for these thefts is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500.
To remain anonymous and receive a possible reward up to $3,000, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
